KALB Named “Station of the Year” by the Louisiana Association of Broadcasting

BATON ROUGE, La. (KALB) –On Wednesday afternoon, the Louisiana Association of Broadcasting honored KALB-TV with two prestigious awards: Best Television Station (Small Market) and a Lifetime Achievement Award for KALB Chief Meteorologist Tom Konvicka. Konvicka has more than 30 years of broadcasting experience at KALB.

Two stations are selected for the LAB’s Station of the Year award, one for a “Large Market” (Baton Rouge, New Orleans and Shreveport) and one for a “Small Market” (everywhere else in Louisiana) respectively. They are judged based off of an overall review of the station’s past year in News, Sales and Community Outreach.

“When we’re talking about the power of KALB Television, we’re talking about it belonging to the community,” said KALB General Manager Michele Godard. “We thank the LAB for this recognition and for its tireless work on behalf of Louisiana Broadcasters. As our parent company Gray Television recently said when being named Station Group of the Year…we are ‘honored by the award, andinspired by our people.”

The Television Lifetime Achievement award is given to one broadcaster who has invested his life into the field of television. In the middle of a particularly busy week for Central Louisiana weather, Konvicka was shocked at his win.

“When I heard I was nominated, I thought…Me? No way,” said Konvicka to the audience at the LAB’s Prestige Awards Luncheon. “Anything is possible. I can’t believe I get paid to do this.”

KALB’s management staff would like to add that we could not be more proud of Tom and would like to thank the Louisiana Association of Broadcasters for these two outstanding awards.
