The second annual Grant Ingram Memorial Scholarship Event was held this past Monday before a large crowd at St. Mary’s. The current Lady Tigers fell to a surprisingly tough alumnae team with experience ranging from 1997 grad Jamie Methvin to 2008 graduates Claire Harrington and Colleen Whitehead. No mercy was asked or given as the two teams engaged in a tough, physical basketball game.

Not to be outdone, the Tigers faced a team made of deputy sheriffs, coaches, dads and alumni. The score went back and forth with the “experienced” team pulling off a one point victory over their younger, but less wiley opponents. Both games featured the unusual antics and creative refereeing that this event is known for. Many thanks to Mr. Leonard Sarpy and Mr. Dwayne Spillman who provided some of the most entertaining officiating this side of professional wrestling. If the Harlem Globetrotters ever come to Natchitoches, we have just the refs!

The annual event is a fun way to raise funds for a serious purpose – scholarships for St. Mary’s students in honor of St. Mary’s graduate and outstanding athlete Grant Ingram who was taken from us entirely too early.
