Ribbon cutting marks completion of AT&T tower

Ribbon Cutting

AT&T Louisiana held a ribbon cutting July 13 to mark completion of a new cell tower placed on top of Turpin Stadium on the campus of Northwestern State University. The new tower, on the stadium’s west side, is online and has improved coverage on campus and in the Natchitoches area.

State Director David J. Aubrey said AT&T decided to make this investment after listening to the Natchitoches community and its customers. There was a demand to fill a gap in service between existing towers by Interstate 49 and the downtown area. The company also reconnected its membership with the Natchitoches Chamber of Commerce and contributed to a scholarship fund at NSU.

“We’re linked into the community where we live,” said NSU President Dr. Jim Henderson. “College student are demanding more service and connectivity is the key. But it goes deeper than that. It’s about partnerships. We’re adding to the quality of life.”

Sheriff Victor Jones, Mayor Lee Posey, DA Van Kyzar and Assistant DA Billy Joe Harrington, Janice Bolton, Rep. Kenny Cox and Kelvin Porter, NSU faculty and AT&T employees gathered to cut the ribbon, holding up the “fork em” sign as they marked the implementation of a brand new piece of technology.
