Crash on Hwy. 1 near Cypress involves car and tractor

While NPSO Deputies, State Police, EMS and Fire Rescue were on the scene of a major two-vehicle crash on La. Hwy 6 East near Payne Sub-division Nov. 15, additional deputies and Natchitoches Regional Medical Center EMS responded to a vehicle/tractor crash on La. Hwy 1 just north of Cypress at 6:16 p.m.

Deputies say a 2012 John Deere 6115 tractor hauling a round bale of hay with lighting activated was traveling northbound on the shoulder of La. Hwy 1 just north of Cypress, when a 2015 Jeep Cherokee also traveling northbound struck the tractor in the rear.
After impact the tractor left the roadway into a ditch traveling approximately 75 feet before coming to a rest.

During the preliminary investigation, the operator of the Jeep Cherokee stated she was traveling northbound when she looked away at the radio, striking the tractor.
Both operators of the vehicle and tractor received minor injuries but refused EMS transport at the scene.

Both the vehicle and tractor received heavy damage.
The investigation is continuing by the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office.
