Boy Scouts from Troop 60 in Natchitoches celebrated their many accomplishments this fall at a Court of Honor ceremony Dec. 15. Troop 60 Scouts earned 12 rank advancements and 36 merit badges since August, including four Star Scout advancements, two First Class, two Second Class, one Tenderfoot, and three Scout. Eight Scouts attended Camp Turkey at Garland Scout Ranch November 19-22, earning merit badges in areas like Rifle Shooting, Shotgun Shooting, Nuclear Science, First Aid, Emergency Preparedness, Robotics, and Woodworking.
Scouts are building a new sled for the Iditarod race and campout at the end of January. This competition challenges Troop members to demonstrate knowledge of any and all points of Scouting (knots, first aid, camping, hiking, fire safety, orienteering, etc.) during a physically demanding sled race where they pull their loaded sled across miles of rough ground.
Troop 60 returns to regular meetings on Jan. 5. Meetings occur every Thursday at 7 p.m. at First United Methodist Church. Interested potential Scouts aged 11-17 are welcome to attend or contact the Church office at 357-8296 for more information.
