The Northwestern State University Police Department will be participating in the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission’s “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” program July 2 – July 5.

According to Det. Cary Hargrove, Northwestern State police will use a combination of sobriety checkpoints and saturation patrols to identify and apprehend impaired drivers. These patrols and checkpoints will occur throughout the six-day Independence Day holiday period on Friday through Wednesday.

“Natchitoches Parish ranks in the top 25 parishes in the state in total fatal and injury crashes,” said Hargrove. “Impaired driving and failure to use seatbelts are the two leading causes of injury and/or fatality crashes across the state. The members of the Northwestern State University Police Department want everyone to arrive alive by not drinking and driving.”

Agencies across the state will be participating in the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission’s “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign.
