If you live in Louisiana, you may not be too concerned about the negative affect cold weather can have on your car. But even cars in Louisiana’s warm Fall temperatures need a car care check as the days begin to grow shorter.
We all know that regular routine maintenance can help improve gas milage, lower pollution and catch minor issues before they grow into repair headaches. However, it’s important to remember to get your car’s belts and hoses checked before the cold weather sets in.
Cold weather in particular can make any existing problems your car might have, worse. A drop in temperature can cause hoses to leak and belts to crack.
“Jackson Automotive has been Natchitoches’ buy here/pay here dealer over the last 20 years,” said owner Clay Jackson. “We’ve dealt with thousands of customers and our Service Center is here to make sure their cars run effectively in any season.”
A cold weather issue Clay has seen before is when someone leaves their car running for long periods of time, whether stationary or for a long drive. When it’s turned off and left to sit in cold weather, the expansion and contraction within the engine can get the thermostat in a bind.
“Next thing you know, your engine is overheating,” he said
Worn tires can also be dangerous in winter weather. Gauge your tires existing tread life, uneven wearing and cupping. Also check the side walls for any nicks and cuts. Check tire pressure once a month and rotate as recommended.
Get new tires and other necessary auto repairs at the Jackson Automotive Service Center, which offers personalized service at a fair price. The Center has a large inventory of premium tires for nearly every make and model.
