Master Gardeners Community Activities

MG at COA_6478

After their October meeting, the Master Gardeners of Natchitoches Parish stopped by the Natchitoches Parish Council On Aging building. They wanted to check out the new raised vegetable beds and do a little weeding and thinning of crowded plants. For example, once you see 3-4 leaves on your radish seedlings, you should thin them to about 1 inch apart. The Master Gardeners will keep an eye on weeds for the Council On Aging and offer tips and help in their gardens.

The Master Gardeners will also help the Natchitoches’ Office of Community Development’s Beautification Crew again. On Nov. 2-3 at 9 a.m., they will learn how the crew makes those gorgeous hanging baskets. Since the best way to learn is by doing, they will then help build the baskets! Many hands make light work. Meet at the greenhouse at the intersection of Touline St and 6th St.

Have questions on gardening, plant identification, or how to become a Master Gardener? Swing by their booth at the Natchitoches Farmers’ Market every Saturday from 8-12 on Front Street.
