St. Denis Garden Club honors Jeanne Guillory

Garden Club 1

Members of the St. Denis Garden Club gathered at Jeanne’s Country Garden Nov. 14 to dedicate a plaque in honor of the original owner of the flower shop, Jeanne Guillory. Her daughter Donna Fletcher attended the event.

The St. Denis Garden Club was founded 59 years ago. There was a buzz of excitement in the room for this dedication.

“I’m very familiar with this shop and these work stations,” said Sandra McCullen. “The Garden Club members would always seek Jeanne’s help for upcoming flower shows. She was a friend to everyone who walked through her doors and an inspiration to us all.”

The plaque will serve as a memorial for people to recognize the passion Jeanne had for flowers and the Natchitoches community.

“She was a guiding force, an encourager, a supporter,” said Margie Pierson. “Jeanne and I were special friends. She has a love for flowers, nature and gardens and we bonded over them.”

Garden Club members present: Sarah Katherine Ahrens, Cynthia Brown, Charlotte Cross, Kay Foshee, Gail Himes, Marian Keaton, Lanell Causey, Chrissey Henry, Sandra McCullen, Juanita Murphy, Margie Pierson and Margaret Berry. Those unable to make the event include: Lola Dunahoe, Pat Cunningham, San Brown, Kim Johnson, Sharon Gahagan and Sara Luster.

Current Shop Owners are Pail and Terri Brantley. Employees include: Manager Sandy Davis, Bridget Metoyer, Cass Arnold, Mary Nolley, Casey Rachal and Tracey Warner.
