Northwestern State flag football team wins regional title

Northwestern State University’s Intramural CoRec Flag Football Team won the regional championship over the weekend at the NIRSA Regional Flag Football Tournament hosted by the University of Southern Mississippi. NSU defeated Stephen F. Austin, the University of West Florida and Louisiana Tech to win the title.

Members of the winning team were Savonya Robinson, Chatoria Pace and Naterria Davis of Shreveport, Byron Stevens of Zachary, Adia Keys and Destany Washington of Lake Charles and Jeremy Aaron of Natchitoches. Also on the championship team were Asante Belton of Jonesboro, Da’Maryon Lee and McKinley Greenhouse of Hessmer, Paige West of Brookeland, Texas, Cody Wager of Diana, Texas, Kelsey Gallman of Bossier City, Meghan Knight of Olla, Amber Griffin of Glenmora, Tracy Wilridge of Crowley and Louis Mayweather of Mansfield.

Wager was named the Male MVP and Robinson was named Female MVP. Wager, Robinson, Greenhouse and Knight were named to the All-Tournament team.

As one of only 11 regional winners in the country, the team will represent Northwestern State at the National Championships at the University of West Florida on Jan. 5-7.
