NSU’s campus resounded with the crack of bats as the coaches and players of Northwestern State University’s Lady Demon Softball team hosted their annual All Skills Camp Saturday, January 6th. An eager group of 35 high school softball players from Louisiana and Texas spent a fast paced day improving their skills under the tutelage of Demon coaches and players.
The Lady Demons have a distinctly local flavor with two Natchitoches Parish ladies on the team with a third making her debut next season. Outfielders Kayla Roquemore and Madelyn Matt were standouts for NCHS and St. Mary’s respectively. Kayla is now a junior at NSU and is majoring in Health & Exercise Science. Madelyn is a sophomore at NSU and looks to be an occupational therapist. They will be joined next year by NCHS pitcher Madison Holmes who recently signed her letter of intent for the Lady Demons.
NSU Softball will host the Natchitoches Historic Development Commission Lady Demon Classic February 16 – 18 at the softball complex on campus.
The Natchitoches Parish Journal extends its best wishes to Kayla, Madelyn and their team mates as they start the season. We are looking forward to seeing them do great things on the field, in the classroom and in their lives. Fork ’em Demons!
