St. Mary’s Powerlifting Team brings home five medals at first meet of the year

The St. Mary’s Powerlifting Team knew some tough teams (e.g.,West Monroe and Calvary B​​aptist) would be at the first Powerlifting Meet of the year, so​ student athletes were excited to take the opportunity to practice in an official setting. The team brought home five medals:

– David Thibodaux, 2nd place – Super Heavyweight class
– Matthew Thibodeaux, 2nd place, in weight class
– Madison Lester, 2nd place, in weight class
– Damon LeGrande, 3rd place, in weight class
– Hannah Deranger, 3rd place, in weight class

In addition to seven new powerlifters competing in their very first meet and doing very well, the following​ ​returning lifters made personal bests in a competition setting:

– David Thibodaux – 500-pound deadlift
– Damon LeGrande – 500-pound deadlift
– Matthew Thibodaux – 535-pound deadlift
​- Sean Grappe – 260-pound deadlift
– Hannah Deranger – 190-pound squat
