Save the date for Northwestern State University Alumni Association’s 3rd annual Natchitoches Dragon Boat Races Saturday, March 3 at the newly renovated downtown Natchitoches riverbank.
Races will begin at 8 a.m. and continue throughout the day with vendors, music and activities for families and spectators. Spectator admission is free.
“We’re excited to be back on the riverbank where we first started, and we’re hoping to double the number of teams and participants just like we did last year. To do that we’ve lowered the price to enter a team by half from the previous two years, so we hope to entice new teams that have never rowed before, while retaining previous teams,” said Van Eriskon, NSU Associate Director of Alumni Affairs.
Dragon Boat teams consist of 20 paddlers (a minimum of eight must be female) and one drummer. The helmsman will be provided. There will be a practice session for each team during the week preceding the event.
A more detailed event schedule will be posted soon, but if you would like to enter team or become a vendor go online to (dragonboats18.eventbrite.com)
The two bands playing this year will be 92twenty from Alexandria, LA and Beaux Atkins from Shreveport, LA.
