2017 Consumer Confidence Report for City of Natchitoches Water

Water Quality

The City of Natchitoches published its 2017 Consumer Confidence Report on the City’s website at http://www.natchitochesla.gov (OR SEE DOCUMENT BELOW). This a report that the City has to do yearly. It informs residents about the quality of their water and services the City delivers to them every day.

  1. I refuse to drink water that is brown and/or smells bad. I refuse to drink water that may look clear, but smells like bleach. I was recently in the hospital for tests, and the nurse brought me a pill along with a cup of water. I told her that I did not drink city water and haven’t for more than a few years. Her reply was, “I don’t either, but this is all we have.” I had to drink it, no choice. Next time, you can rest assured that I will have water from home with me. The water at home is delivered to me. I drink it and I cook with it. It’s clean, there is no nasty smell, and best of all, it tastes good.

  2. Congrats to the City of Natchitoches for no findings on this water report. I have excellent, clear water at my home. I did have issues during the chlorine flush of the system several months ago, but once that was over, things returned to normal.

  3. This report means nothing. I still have either yellow or brown water coming out of faucets. Our clothes, washcloths and towels have been ruined. I have called numerous times and nothing gets done. I have lived here all my life and I have never been so disappointed with the Mayor and council members. I do not trust anything that comes out of their mouths. There is a reason our city has such a high cancer rate. When are people going to wake up and start demanding better from our city?! I, for one, am sick and tired of paying my utility bill monthly for brown water and ruined clothes!!! It’s not too much to ask for clear water!

  4. As I read this, a brown hazy liquid is running out of the faucet in our kitchen sink. No one should consider drinking the water here. In the past twenty years, water quality in Natchitoches has gotten steadily worse. The flouride disappeared despite the efforts of a local dental concern who lobbied the mayor and council with evidence of the negative impact it was having on dental health in the city. Band-aid efforts have been made to clean the water, but brown water and increased contaminants have gotten more and more prevalent. The published report written in detailed scientifc jargon is not for the average reader to understand risk. It is simply an attempt by government entities to reduce their liability. Clear water used to flow from the tap in this city. Is it too much for the tax payers to exprct anymore?
