It’s that time of year! No, not when the world falls in love (though we hope that is happening too), but for the annual Summer Reading Program at the Natchitoches Parish Library (NPL)! Both the Main Branch and the Northeast Branch (NEB) are back at it this summer, offering an array of programming around the theme “Libraries Rock!.” Events are designed to be entertaining, educational, and enjoyable for all ages. And that doesn’t just mean that everyone can enjoy the magic show that is planned, but that there are in fact three reading for rewards programs. Children, teens, and adults can all read for unique prizes each week!
After registering online at natlib.org or at any circulation desk, patrons can pick up bookmarks that can be filled in as they read. Two hours completes one bookmark that can then be turned in for that week’s prize, guaranteed. Any additional bookmarks each week will earn extra chances to win the grand prize drawing at the end of July! Again, each age group will have their own grand prize, just as with the weekly rewards, of which six may be earned in total.
The reading portion of the program lasts from June 1 until August 10, however patrons can only earn entries for the grand prize drawings through July 31. Again, there is no limit to the number of bookmarks you may turn in; however, you may only collect six of the weekly prizes during the entirety of the program.
The children’s performances will again be held at each branch location this year. Main Branch performances are Wednesdays at 10am and 2pm, and Thursdays at 10am. NEB performances will be held at City of Refuge Church in Campti on Thursdays at 2pm, except for the Thursday, June 28 performance, which will be held on the NEB premises.
