The Sustainers of the Service League of Natchitoches held their first luncheon of the 2018-19 year at Merci Beaucoup Sept. 4. The Service league of Natchitoches is an organization committed to fostering the potential of women through volunteer service and support of cultural, historical, educational, and charitable endeavors. Sustainers are those members who have fulfilled their service requirements to the organization but still support the charitable endeavors of the League which includes supporting Prud’homme-Rouquier House Foundation.

First Lady of Northwestern State University and Sustainer Jennifer Maggio discussed her Forks Up for Literacy drive. This year the drive is focused on collecting art supplies for local schools. Mrs. Maggio is asking students, alums and friends of NSU to donate art supplies not typically provided by families at the beginning of the school year. Items such as paint brushes, washable or finger paints, craft sticks, pipe cleaners, and smocks would be great additions to art classrooms in the schools. The Forks Up for Literacy initiative began last year with its inaugural book drive and has collected more than 5,000 books that have been distributed throughout parishes in Louisiana from which NSU draws its largest number of students. Art supplies collected this year will be distributed throughout these parishes as well. Mrs. Maggio will be collecting donations at every home NSU football game at the Collins Pavillion during tailgating.
