Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Deputies arrested a Campti man on felony drug charges during a traffic stop on Friday according to the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office.

NPSO Patrol Division deputies were patrolling in Campti Aug. 31 at 2:14 pm when they stopped a 2001 Pontiac Sunfire on Edenborne Street for a traffic violation.

Deputies identified the operator of the vehicle as Edward Sewell, 50 of Campti.

During a NLETS computer check, deputies learned Sewell’s driver’s license was suspended.

Sewell also appeared nervous leading deputies to believe criminal activity existed.

Deputies requested permission to search Sewell and the vehicle.

During a search of the vehicle, deputies seized 3-suspected ecstasy pills.

Ecstasy is commonly used as a phsychoactive drug but recent crime lab analysis have shown methamphetamine in recent drug seizures in Natchitoches Parish.

Sewell was placed under arrest, transported and booked into the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center charged with Possession of CDS Schedule I MDMA, and traffic charges.

Additional charges are pending based on crime lab analysis of the seized evidence.

Sewell has been released on a $6500 criminal bond set by a Tenth Judicial District Court Judge.

The vehicle was impounded by a local wrecker service.

Involved in the arrest were Deputy D. Caballero assisted by Sgt. C. Dunn.
