Letter to the Editor: Tombstones Vote

As published in the Natchitoches Times Weekend edition October 20-21, 2018, and the Natchitoches Parish Journal (NPJ), dated 10-19-18 concerning a meeting to be held by the members to elect new officers and board of directors, of the Marthaville Cemetery, Inc., the meeting was held and by all accounts the attendance of over 60 members, it was the largest attended meeting for the cemetery in many years.

Everyone greeted each other with smiles, hand shakes and hugs and visited until the flow of cars and trucks found a place to park on a wet, Louisiana foggy Saturday morning, when most men, women and youngsters of the area were on their deer stands.

Everyone that is members, signed in with their name, their relative’s name that is buried in the cemetery, and that relationship. After everyone was signed in, a Ms Verity Bell, an attorney and member of the Louisiana Bar Association, announced that she had reviewed the Articles of Incorporation and By-Laws and had been requested to moderate today’s election meeting according to Roberts Rules Of Order. She call the meeting to order with no objections and stated that the only item on the printed agenda that would be discussed today is to elect all new officers and board of directors as voted unanimously by the membership at the annual meeting, June 2, 2018.

With that, she opened nominations for President, then continued after each office until the following results were voted on and confirmed:

Patty Berry Weeks — President
Carolyn Sue Roe — Secretary/Treasurer
John Rawls — Board Member, Term expires June 2021
Donna Dyson Horn — Board Member, Term expires June 2020
Randall “Fuzzy” Hennigan — Board Member, Term expires, June 2019

Each new officer and board member confirmed they would abide by the Articles of Incorporation and by-laws and the meeting was adjourned. The next annual meeting will be June 1, 2019.
