JoAnna Washington grew up in Opelousas, but she fell in love with Natchitoches in 2001. She came to the City of Lights to attend Northwestern State University where she received a degree in business administration with a minor in management.
She was married a few months before she graduated to Kevin Washington Jr., a Natchitoches native. They have twins: Kaylee and Kevin III.
JoAnna’s journey with City Bank & Trust Company began when she enrolled as a freshman at NSU. City Bank was the first financial institution she was introduced to and she opened her very own checking account with them.
After her graduation, City Bank was the first and only application JoAnna submitted.
“I always knew I wanted to work in the banking industry,” she said. “Since I was little, I was always intrigued by the bank tellers. I loved going with my mother to cash her checks and then I’d help her count out the money.”
JoAnna started working as a teller at City Bank in 2006. She moved up to head teller before working as an identity theft coordinator and was later promoted to Branch Administrator, Loan Officer and Assistant VP at the University Branch.
As branch administrator for the past 6 years, JoAnna feels blessed and privileged that City Bank thought she was worthy of having the title.
“It’s really rewarding,” she said. “Leading, inspiring, motivating.”
Recently, in April, JoAnna earned her master’s in business administration with a minor in leadership. She said she couldn’t have done this without determination and a good support system, both at home and where she works.
“It was God first,” she said. “My family was always there for me. My children were my biggest cheerleaders, and of course the team at City Bank had my back.”
JoAnna enjoys her work leading and motivating all the tellers on the front line. She enjoys helping others grow and reach their goals in life.
“Just because you’re a leader, doesn’t mean you’re superior,” said JoAnna. “Every new hire I train is different. I respect their individuality and find what’s important for each one so I can bring out the best in them. I promote teamwork because that’s what brings out the best in the bank.”
Most of all, JoAnna loves how family oriented City Bank is. JoAnna loves her bank family just as much as the Natchitoches community it serves.
