Natchitoches Magnet School recognized finalists for Student of the Year and the Teachers of the Year at a morning assembly Nov. 13.
The student finalists were chosen based on a biography they wrote, their grade point average, and their state test scores. Their leadership, activities, services, citizenship and recognitions and awards were also factored into the decision.
Based on these criteria, three eighth graders and two fifth graders were chosen to compete for Magnet Student of the Year. The finalists for fifth grade were Bryan Chen and Maggie Sampey. The eight grade finalists were Aaniyah Hardwell, Bethanne Methvin and Kaley Woods.
The winners were Bryan Chen and Bethanne Methvin. These two student will go on to compete against Students of the Year from other schools in the district in January. The winners of the district-wide competition will go on to the state level.
Teacher of the Year winners at Magnet were Amelia Ferguson and Jonathan Parish.
