Results of 2019 Demon Math Classic announced

Individual winners in the Demon Math Classic at Northwestern State University earned trophies, calculators and scholarships to NSU. NSU– Northwestern State University’s Department of Mathematics hosted the Demon Math Classic March 8, a quiz bowl-style competition for high school students with seven teams from four high schools participating. The annual competition was sponsored by Sabine State Bank.

Students competed as teams and as individuals with top competitors from each team selected by the NSU math faculty as All-Stars.

Winners of the individual competition each received a trophy, a TI-Nspire CX CAS graphing calculator and a scholarship to NSU. Winners were Dylan Tynes of C.E. Byrd High School, first place; Gergely Szarvas of C.E. Byrd, second place, and Sansar Gupta of Bolton High School, third place.

The top competitors from each team were selected by the NSU Mathematics faculty as All Stars. All stars were Sansar Gupta of Bolton, Keerthana Stanley of Pineville High School, Gergely Szarvas of Byrd, Dylan Tynes of Byrd, Abbas Khambatti of Bolton High School, Ashton Iber and Braeden Fordham, both of Pitkin High School.

In the team competition, winners were C.E. Byrd’s Purple Team, first; Bolton High School, second, and C.E. Byrd’s Gold Team, third. Each school received a plaque and a medal to keep and C.E. Byrd’s Purple Team received the traveling trophy for the year.
