Quick quiz on what might happen Friday evening in Natchitoches at the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame’s Rockin’ River Fest, free to everybody on the beautiful downtown Rue Beauport stage:
NFL great Peyton Manning might croon a tune after he’s introduced
Colorful former LSU football coach Les Miles could reprise his rap music game, or give us one more Hey Fightin’ Tigers rendition
Rockin’ Dopsie and Wayne Toups will have everybody in a deep Louisiana musical groove
Country superstars Kenny Chesney and Brad Paisley may make appearances to celebrate with their buddy Peyton
All of the above, and who knows what else?
At least three of the four scenarios above are quite possible during the riverfront concert, which runs from 6-10:30 p.m. and is presented by Rapides Regional Medical Center. One of the highlights: a little after 9 o’clock, the Hall’s impressive Class of 2019, headlined by Manning and Miles but with a very distinct Cenla flavor, will be introduced on stage, and celebrated with a 10-minute fireworks show over Cane River Lake.
And yes, you read correctly. It’s free. There will be food and beverage vendors on the riverfront, and of course, Front Street’s always fun watering holes/restaurants are just a few steps away.
It’s family friendly. A free interactive kids zone will include basketball, football, golf and science games for all ages to enjoy.
If you want to beat the early summer temperatures and enjoy a tasty collection of Louisiana foods and specialty refreshments, call to snap up some of the few remaining $100 tickets to the VIP Taste of Tailgating presented by MidSouth Bank – 318-238-4255.
A huge, air-conditioned tent will house that party from 7-10 p.m. that will provide exclusive access to the 11-member 2019 Induction Class – including Cenla legends like Alexandria-Peabody Magnet basketball coaching icon Charles Smith; our state’s first and greatest rodeo cowboy, Leesville’s T.B. “T. Berry” Porter; Alexandria native and Louisiana College tennis great Marie Gagnard; and sports journalist Philip Timothy, an NSU graduate.
Join the fun and celebrate some of Louisiana’s sports greats, for free, tonight in downtown Natchitoches. For information on all of the events during the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame Induction Celebration call 318-238-4255.
