The Natchitoches Parish Council held a Special Called meeting Tuesday evening, July 30, to vote on two agenda items. The first item was to adopt a resolution to declare as surplus certain items of equipment and supplies transferred to the Parish by the Office of Head Start. This is due to the organization Save the Children taking over the operation of the Head Start Program in Natchitoches Parish. This resolution is required for the Parish to dispose of those items of no value to the Parish.
There was discussion regarding a van that’s still usable that will remain with the Parish. They also talked about storage building located on NSU’s campus, some of which will need to be demolished. These expenses were budgeted in the close out costs and the Head Start Office in Dallas will pay for it. Some other buildings NSU has expressed an interest in keeping. Two buildings located in Mansfield will be brought to Natchitoches. One will be used as the new scale house and the other will be placed at the highway department. There’s also paperwork dating back to 1990 that needs to be shredded. The Parish has engaged a shredding company to come in and handle the process.
The second item was to award the contract for the courthouse elevator service to the firm of Southwest Elevator Co. DBA Oracle Elevator. Their bid was the lowest of three received at $540 per month from Aug. 3, 2019 to Aug. 2, 2024. This company is already servicing the elevators at NSU and has a local person to do the work. The response time will be a lot less because of this.
