Ball Woman Killed in UTV Crash

Natchitoches Parish – On Sunday, a crash involving a UTV killed a woman from Ball, LA. Troopers responded to the crash around 12:45 p.m., which occurred on Cunningham Camp Road. The crash involved a 2017 Honda Pioneer 700, driven by a 16-year-old juvenile. The Honda was eastbound on Cunningham Camp Road when the juvenile driver lost control and exited the left side of the roadway. After exiting the left side, the UTV reentered the roadway before exiting the right side and began overturning.

The juvenile received minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital. A passenger, identified as 40-year-old Amanda Preble, was pronounced dead. Both occupants were ejected during the crash.

Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation.

The public is reminded that it is dangerous and illegal to operate off-road vehicles (i.e. three-wheelers, four-wheelers, and other all-terrain vehicles) on any public roadway in this state. Although not all crashes are survivable, properly utilizing safety equipment, like helmets and seat belts, decreases your risk of serious injury or death.

Troop E Troopers have investigated 28 fatal crashes in 2019, resulting in 32 fatalities.

  1. I don’t know how many times I used to see this guy holding an infant while driving a 4-wheeler. I finally called the police, but I don’t know what ever happened.

When y’all say the cops don’t care… are you referring to local cops? Could we take a different approach and report the situation to Child Protection Services? Surely letting a kid under 10 operate an ATV qualifies as reckless endangerment (besides allowing the kid to break the law).

What can you say? People invent new ways all the time to hurt themselves and then say “it’s all in fun.”

  2. Golf carts too. Was going down a subdivision street and off the to side, but in the street, was a golf cart with 5 young kids hanging on it. Was driven by a 7 or 8 yr old. Suddenly the cart does a 180 right out in front of me. I laid on the horn to send them a message, like you could get killed doing that, and they “flipped me off” with their looks. Arrogant kids. We’ll be reading about them all crushed under the wheels of a truck…

But, I post this not as a Public Service Announcement designed to perhaps save lives because I know no one really cares. The police don’t care. Their parents certainly don’t care, else we wouldn’t see young kids operating motorized vehicles in streets where larger vehicles weighing many tons and going 30mph+ frequent the space.

How do I know no one cares? Just watch the reaction to this post. Most will ignore it. Some will say “mind your own business.” I do. I don’t want to be one of those crushing the life out of kids.

    Carry on!
