In an auspicious beginning to the school year, the gym at M. R, Weaver School was filled with students, parents and family members attending the school’s open house Monday, Aug 5. Principal Jennifer Martin introduced her faculty and support staff and spoke to the attendees about her expectations for the year. Ms. Martin is in her second year as a principal and came to Weaver from Lakeview where she served for the past 4 years. She said she is “returning to her roots” as she spent 12 years teaching 4th grade before moving to Lakeview High School. In the district’s banding concept, Weaver will host around 400 students in 3rd and 4th grade. After the introductions, the families proceeded to their child’s homeroom to meet their teachers, tour the school, and complete paperwork.
Weaver’s enrollment is growing steadily. The school welcomed 22 new Flyers to the Weaver family tonight. The 27 members of the faculty include two first year teachers. Ms. Sydney Anderson is a native of Martin in Red River Parish and is a 2019 Northwestern State University alumnae. She will be teaching 3rd grade math and science. She will also be working on her master’s degree at NSU while teaching. She is joined by her fellow first year teacher, Ms. Tori Williams, an alumnae of Mississippi State University who moved to the parish with her family. Her husband is a reliability engineer at the paper mill. Ms. Williams will be teaching 3rd grade ELA and Social Studies.
The Natchitoches Parish Journal wishes the boys and girls of the M. R. Weaver School success in their academic journey through the school year. We are looking forward to seeing their accomplishments. We also wish Ms. Anderson and Ms. Williams every success as they embark on their teaching careers.
