Tarlisha Hudson: Mayor of Campti Candidacy Announcement

Hi, I’m Tarlisha Hudson and I’m excited to announce my candidacy for the office of Mayor of Campti, LA. I would like the opportunity to Serve, Represent, and Rebuild Campti with my demonstrated competence and commitment.

I was born and raised in Campti and have lived here most of my life, I briefly lived in Natchitoches for a few years, but moved back to Campti to help take care of my grandmother. I am married to Kenneth Hudson with whom I co-lead our lively team of five children. I have two children in college, two in high school, and one in pre-school.

I am a 1997 graduate of Lakeview High School and 2004 graduate of Northwestern State University. I am currently pursuing a Life & Leadership Coaching certification through IPEC. I have also served 8 years in the United States Army Reserve. My work experiences and skills are in sales, management, planning, administrative, leadership, event coordinating, and coaching. I am a lifetime learner committed to becoming accomplished in whatever task or goals I set for myself.

There were key steps and principles that have led me to run for this office. These steps began when I was about 5 years old. When I was around 5 years old I remembered watching my mother take action after watching the “Feed the Children” infomercials. We didn’t have much, but she scraped to send money to feed the children. This really instilled in me that I had a duty to serve others from what I had been given. By 8 years old I had the desire to join the Peace Corps to go to 3rd world countries to build houses. By 18 yrs old that desire had evolved into the decision to go and serve my country in the U.S. Army Reserve and go to college. So as I look back, I have always had the desire and commitment to serve. I have served as a volunteer with the Town of Campti, C.A.S.A., Operation Christmas Child, Kingdom Life Center, Smokin-on-the-Red Festival, First Time Home Buyer’s Fair, Campti Community Back-2-School Bash, Lakeview Band and Football Booster Clubs, and other numerous projects and fundraisers. Serving others isn’t something I will do, it’s what I’ve done. Because, it is who I am. I love working with people to bring about changes that empower the community.

In addition to serving, I believe strong representation is a must. I take personal responsibility as to how people view organizations that I am a representative of by how I show up in my character, communication, and presentation. A good name has great value. Representation to me is not only about how I show up. But, also what knowledge do I bring to the table when I show up. What knowledge do I take back to my organization that can be used? I will go to Natchitoches, Baton Rouge, and other necessary places to represent Campti to make those connections to bring resources to Campti.

And finally, the time to rebuild is now. My focuses are: Economic Development and Family Recreation. Campti is a great town where we can create a place where people will want to live, invest, and work. We have the electricity capacity and a new water and sewage system, which provides a basic infrastructure necessary to bring in new businesses. We still have opportunities to fix our roads, which will provide a more marketable infrastructure to businesses looking at Campti as a place to locate. Also, the recent cleanup efforts are great and add to the value of our town. Through representation, collaboration, training, and local policies sustainable economic development is possible. Family Recreation is my second focus because of all the health, social, and emotional benefits of recreation. There’s a lot of work to be done in Campti. I am not afraid of hard work; I spent my summers as a youth working in my parents’ antique store, cutting weeds from around cotton, and working a truck patch with my grandparents.

It would be an honor to continue to serve and work with you in the new capacity of the Mayor of the Town of Campti.
