Troopers Arrest Hit and Run Driver Who Struck School Bus

Natchitoches Parish — Shortly after the crash this morning involving a hit and run motorist striking a school bus in Red River Parish, Troopers began actively looking for the driver. Through investigative means and after receiving a tip from a concerned citizen the driver of the pickup truck, 29-year-old Shad W. Burr of Marthaville, was located driving on a highway in Natchitoches Parish and arrested.

Burr was booked into the Natchitoches Parish jail then transferred to the Red River Parish Jail where he charged with reckless operation of a motor vehicle, hit and run driving, and driving with a suspended driver’s license. The crash remains under investigation.

Troopers Seek Assistance in Locating Hit and Run Vehicle

Red River Parish — A Red River Parish school bus was struck by a hit and run driver this morning. Troopers are asking for assistance in locating the suspect vehicle.

Shortly after 7:00 a.m., Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop G responded to a crash on US Highway 71 just south of Louisiana Highway 784 near Magnolia Landing. The initial investigation revealed a blue Ram pickup truck, possibly a 2012-2017 model, crossed the center line and sideswiped a Red River Parish school bus that was transporting children to school. After impact, the driver of the pickup drove away from the scene.

The Ram pickup should have extensive damage to the driver side as follows: broken driver’s side headlamp lens, missing driver side mirror, damage to cab and windshield, broken driver tail lamp lens, and yellow paint transfer down the driver’s side.

There were four children on the bus at the time of the crash however no injuries were reported. The crash remains under investigation.
