Natchitoches Tribe of Louisiana will hold Pow Wow this Saturday

The Natchitoches Tribe of Louisiana will hold its 2nd Annual Pow Wow on Saturday, Nov. 9 from 10 am – 5 pm at the Fort St. Jean Baptiste State Historic Site, located at 155 Jefferson Street in Natchitoches.

Gates open at 10 am and a gourd dance will be performed at 10:30 am. At 11 am there will be a grand entry and social dancing with MC Missy Thompson and Arena Director Roland Thompson. Head Gourd is John Walraven, Head Man is Bo Clemence, Head Boy is Kegan Ebarb, Head Woman is Kallie Ann Walraven, and Head Girl is Raelyn Walraven.

At 11:30 am water drums will be played by Cougar Goodbear, Edgar Bush, and Dan Guidry. Clement Lagouarde will lead a grass dance at 12 pm, followed by a silent auction and fishing raffle at 12:30 pm. At 1 pm, there will be another water drums performance, followed by a Rising Sun Choctaw/Apache Youth Group Dancing Demo. The Center Drum will be played by the AC Woodland Singers.

A second grand entry will take place at 2 pm with another water drums performance from 4-4:30 pm. A social dance and closing ceremony will take place from 4:30-5 pm.

There will be traditional Native American food vendors and art displays. A children’s section will have Native American story telling, traditional Native American face painting, digs for arrowhead and pottery pieces, and feathers/head band decorations to show they earned their first feather.
