Northwestern State University’s Director of Athletics Greg Burke posted the following statement regarding the tragic death of Carly McCord.
“It is with great sadness the NSU Athletics family – coaches, student-athletes, and staff, past and present – grieves the loss of Carley McCord Ensminger. Carley had an abounding love for her alma mater. While always maintaining professionalism and objectivity, she truly embraced the opportunity to cover Demon athletic events. Her vibrant personality and passionate approach to sports journalism had her career pointed at an upward trajectory. All of us at her alma mater were proud to call her an alumna and an ambassador for Northwestern State. Our hearts and sympathies are with her husband and family, as well as the other families impacted by this tragedy, during this difficult time.”
McCord was one of five fatalities in a plane crash in Lafayette on Dec. 28. The private plane was on its way to Atlanta, Ga. The occupants were on their way to the Peach Bowl. Now family, friends, colleagues and sports fans mourn the loss of the beloved sports reporter.
