Natchitoches, LA, March 17, 2020 – In an effort to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), the Natchitoches Parish Library Board of Control voted to close both library branches, effective immediately. This closure will run through Monday, March 30.
Library Director, Jessica McGrath, emphasized that the closure is to protect staff and patrons. “We are all doing what we can to keep our community safe and encourage social distancing.”
Although physical locations will be closed, patrons can still take advantage of the digital services the library has to offer. Ebooks, audiobooks, movies, music, and comics can be accessed through the libby and hoopla apps. McGrath noted that staff will be monitoring the library’s social media and email accounts to answer questions and assist patrons. “If you are unsure how to check out an ebook or set up an account, email us at firstname.lastname@example.org or message us on the library’s Facebook page. We’ll walk you through it.”
During the closure, all fines will be suspended and all library materials currently checked out will be automatically renewed.
Library Administration will continue to monitor updates on the COVID-19 outbreak. Decisions to reopen the library, or to extend its closure, will be based on new developments regarding the spread of the virus and directives set by the government and health officials.
