Ms. Higgins was involved with LASFAA and the Louisiana school system for several years. She was most recently Director of Financial Aid at Xavier University of Louisiana, and has been recognized for such LASFAA achievements as the 1990 Woman of the Year and the 2001 Lifetime Achievement Award. Ms. Higgins retired from Xavier in 2012 and this award is given in recognition of a career dedicated to students, families, and colleagues.
Every year LASFAA raises funds for this scholarship program in order to offer to students like those who were fortunate enough to be served by Ms. Mildred D Higgins. Because of her dedication and service to students, in 2010, the LASFAA High School Scholarship was renamed the LASFAA Mildred D Higgins High School Scholarship.
The LASFAA community is very thankful to Ms. Higgins for her unending service to students and the lessons she has taught us all.
