Clerk of Court’s Office breaks seals on voting machines after August 15 election

Amanda Moore, left, with the Secretary of State’s Office and Fay Megason with the Natchitoches Parish Clerk of Court’s Office checked the voting machine count from the Aug. 15 election during the Breaking of the Seals process at the Voting Machine Warehouse. This process confirms the proper number of votes registered on each machine to make sure they add up. Clerk of Court David Stamey said everything checked out and that this is part of the process moving toward certifying the votes, which takes place on Aug. 20, and submitting the certification to the Secretary of State’s Office.
The next step in the process is to allow anyone to call for a recount if they feel there’s been a problem with the voting process. The deadline is Monday, Aug. 24 at 4:30 pm. This usually happens if there is a really close race.
