TWO NATCHITOCHES MEN ARRESTED FOR FIREARM AND NARCOTICS CHARGES

According to Natchitoches Multi-Jurisdictional Drug Task Force (NMJDTF) Officials, on 9/23/2020, Agents assigned to the NMJDTF attempted to stop a 2012 Dodge Charger for illegal window tint. The driver of the vehicle refused to stop, which led to a brief pursuit. During the pursuit, several items were thrown from the vehicle. The vehicle stopped at the intersection of Mayfield and College Ave, which led to the detention of two subjects, Marquis King, 22 and Donovan Solitaire, 20, both from Natchitoches. During the detention of both subjects, Agents seized a Glock 40 caliber handgun that Solitaire had in his lap.

During the investigation, Agents located approximately 1.11 pounds (500 grams) of suspected high grade marijuana, which had been thrown out during the pursuit. Upon further investigation, Agents arrested King and Solitaire for the following charges:

Marquis King

  • Possession w/intent CDS I (Marijuana)
  • Obstruction of Justice
  • Flight from an Officer
  • Reckless operation of a motor vehicle
  • Improper window tint

Donovan Solitaire

  • Possession w/intent CDS I (Marijuana)
  • Obstruction of Justice
  • Possession of a firearm in the presence of CDS

Both individuals were placed into the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center awaiting bond.

While many may consider marijuana as a “harmless” drug, Agents with the NMJDTF have noted a rise in violent crimes within the area which have been associated with individuals involved in the use, possession, and distribution of high grade marijuana.  The possession of a firearms while in the presence of a Controlled Dangerous Substance in most cases is a violation of law.  This violation is based on the fact a person under the influence of a CDS or involved in the illicit trafficking or distribution of CDS through impairment or fear could be more apt to use it during a disagreement resulting in a violent act that often will result in a serious or possibly deadly outcome

The Natchitoches Multi-Jurisdictional Drug Task Force would like to thank the Citizens of Natchitoches for their support. Many times an investigation begins with a simple phone call or tip from a concerned citizen. For this reason the Task Force encourages all citizens to report any crimes in their neighborhoods anonymously by calling 318-357-2248, The Natchitoches Police Department, or the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office.
