Covid-19 Isolation and Quarantine Policy Update from NPSB

NPSB has received a lot of questions and concerns regarding Natchitoches Parish Schools’ response to positive Covid-19 test results. We want to reassure parents that the safety of each and every student in the district is our top priority. We understand many parents worry about their children being exposed to Covid-19 and want to know what they can do to prevent the spread.

As of Sept. 24 the Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) updated the isolation and quarantine policy for schools. This policy is designed to help school systems protect students from being exposed to Covid-19. The policy urges parents to keep their children home if they are displaying ANY signs of these symptoms:

1 of the following: cough, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, new changes in sense of smell or taste

2 of the following: fever, chills, rigors, myalgia, headache, sore throat, nausea/vomiting, diarrhea, congestion/runny nose or fatigue

If your child has ANY of the symptoms listed above, NPSB urges you to KEEP your child home until they are not presenting any symptoms or until they have been seen by a medical professional and an alternative diagnosis is given. If a symptomatic child reports to school, the entire class will be sent home, pending notice from the school to return.

If it is reported that a student has tested positive for Covid-19, only that student and the class they are in will be notified. In order to protect the privacy of our students and parents, we will NOT release this information. The infected student and those who have come in direct contact with he/she will be contacted directly.

We understand this is a trying time for everyone, however, we must work together to prevent the spread of Covid-19 and keep our students, faculty and staff safe.
