There will be a meeting of the Powhatan Village Council at its regularly scheduled monthly meeting on Tuesday, October 13, at 6:00pm at the Village Hall.
There will be a public hearing and final vote on an ordinance to increase the Village’s Water System Rates, as introduced and discussed at the September 14 meeting. The increase will allow Powhatan to enter into a cooperative agreement with Mayor Ronnie Williams and the City of Natchitoches to be eligible for a Community Development Block Grant from the Louisiana Division of Administration for approximately $2 Million dollars. If approved, the grant will allow for the drilling of new test wells into the Water Well Road aquifer for Natchitoches and the laying of new 8” lines from Bayou Pierre to Powhatan for a safety net backup to the current water systems.
The Village of Powhatan Water System currently serves nearly 200 families. Assistance from the Louisiana Rural Water System Association has been critical to bringing the two municipalities together to this point.
The public is encouraged to attend the meeting which may allow the Village to provide long overdue improvements to the water system.
