What started as a joke between Kris Hall and Dempsey Sumlin has become a very successful joint business venture as they purchased and reopened The Press Box in Natchitoches.
Hall, from Provencal, works with Dempsey in Shreveport. They started talking about how they should open up a bar and one day Hall decided to take a shot at making the “joke” a reality.
After remodeling during the summer, a grand opening was held for The Press Box on Aug. 6 and there’s a whole lot of new features besides the owners.
Choose your favorite flavor and try out the Hookah Bar. Take a swing at the new boxing machine or the corn hole boards. There’s a whole new sound system, and new lighting. A new AC unit and the addition of several fans will cool you down when things heat up on the dance floor. The remodeled ladies room, complete with selfie wall, is sure to leave a good impression. The mens restroom and outside bar area are next on the list for a facelift.
The bar is back and better than ever! Enjoy all the classics and cold beers, but take a walk on the wild side with the infamous “Electric Lemonade,” or new cocktails like the Chocolate Covered Strawberry Shot made with Tequila RoseStrawberry Cream Liqueur, the “Strawberry Fanta,” or the “Spicy Pink Lemonade” made with Pink Whitney Vodka.
According to Bar Manager McKenzie “Tot” Collins, they’ve added Hennessy, Dusse, Patron and Pickle Vodka, among others. “My favorite thing is the live music the new owners are bringing in. They’re really taking the time to improve the experience for everyone.”
Sixteen booths with tables were brought in to offer more seating options. Hall and Dempsey also contracted for security through the Natchitoches Police Department.
The Press Box has even partnered with local businesses (Royal Vapes and Cane’s) for behind-the-bar vaping products and prizes for themed events. There’s always something different going on, so come participate in Sports Jersey Night, NSU Spirit Night, Blackout Party, Toga Party, and much more!
Don’t forget to ride over on the third Friday of the month for Bike Night! They’ve also brought back $1 pitcher Mondays with beer pong tournaments.
“We want The Press Box to be a safe, fun, exciting atmosphere for everyone to enjoy and have a good time,” said Hall. “We want it to be a place where the college students can come to have fun, but also a place where the locals can come to relax.”
All the favorites are still there, including pool tables and dart boards. The DJ will keep the music going most nights, but Fridays are for LIVE music. Upcoming concerts feature Colby Keeling on September 30, Big Po on October 14, David Adam Byrnes on October 28, Dillon Etheridge on November 18 and Bryan Martin on December 2.
Hall and Dempsey already have 10 artists lined up over the next couple months and are currently booking country, rock, rap, and R&B artists.
“We want to make this a place for all to love and enjoy,” Dempsey shared. “We have some big events and artists coming up that you’re sure to love.” The Press Box is open Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Mondays from 10 pm – 2 am.
