Wanted domestic abuse suspect surrenders to Vidalia Police

A man wanted by the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office in connection with a domestic abuse investigation has turned himself in to authorities, according to Sheriff Stuart Wright.

The Natchitoches Parish Communications Center was notified at approximately 1:15 p.m. on May 10 by the Vidalia Police Department that Matthew H. Gowins had surrendered to law enforcement.

Gowins was wanted in connection with a domestic abuse investigation that reportedly occurred near the Oak Grove area on May 7.

According to the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office, Gowins is facing charges of domestic abuse battery by strangulation, domestic abuse battery with child endangerment, and domestic abuse battery with serious bodily injury.

Authorities said Gowins is currently being held by the Vidalia Police Department pending transfer to the custody of NPSO detectives.

The sheriff’s office also thanked media partners, social media users, and assisting law enforcement agencies for their support during the investigation, noting that more than 223,000 people viewed the department’s original post regarding the suspect.

The case remains under investigation by Detective Sgt. Eric Mogridge of the NPSO Criminal Investigations Bureau.
