The Natchitoches Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred early Saturday morning on Highway 1 By-Pass.

NPD officers were patrolling the 7200 block of Highway 1 By-Pass on June 27 around 1:58 am when they observed a large crowd leaving a local bar that was creating a traffic hazard.  While officers were attempting to get more information in reference to the traffic problem, they were notified by the Natchitoches Regional Medical Center that a victim had arrived suffering from several gunshot wounds to the lower body.  Officers were able to locate where the victim had been shot in the parking lot and began to speak with several witnesses.

Investigators and officers canvassed the crime scene for bullet casings and other evidence connected to the shooting.  All of the evidence collected will be sent to the crime lab for further analysis.

After speaking with investigators, the victim was transported to a hospital in Caddo Parish where he was listed in stable condition.

The investigation is ongoing and the Natchitoches Police Department will release more details as they become available.
