Twenty-four Pickleballers on 12 teams vied for top honors and bragging rights at the NSU Rodeo team’s fundraising Pickleball tournament at the NSU WRAC on Aug. 1. The event was held to raise funds to assist the new team with items such as the athletes’ memberships in the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association. The Natchitoches Jaycees led the way with a $1,000 sponsorship.

The 12 young men and women of NSU Rodeo, the university’s newest sports team, are busy preparing for their inaugural season. Team members hail from Louisiana, Montana and Washington state and compete in Rodeo events such as Saddle Bronc, Team Roping, Breakaway and Barrel Racing. Coach Cody DeMoss brings over 25 years of Rodeo experience from a career that saw him earn three Cheyenne Frontier Days titles, three Reno Rodeo titles, three Rodeo Austin titles and three National Western titles as well as four Reserve World Champion titles among other honors.

The team will compete in its first Rodeo on September 25, hosted by Panola College in Texas.
