The City of Natchitoches has been awarded a 2026–2027 Keep Louisiana Beautiful Beautification Grant in the amount of $9,520 to enhance the Front Street Traffic Circle through a new landscaping and beautification initiative that will create a more welcoming gateway into the city’s historic district.
The grant, awarded by Keep Louisiana Beautiful, will fund the installation of native Louisiana shrubs, perennial flowers, ornamental grasses, decorative landscape materials, irrigation improvements, educational signage, and volunteer beautification activities designed to improve one of the city’s most visible public spaces.
“This award reflects our continued commitment to enhancing the beauty of Natchitoches while investing in sustainable public spaces that residents and visitors can enjoy for years to come,” said Mayor Ronnie Williams, Jr. “The Front Street Traffic Circle is one of the first impressions people receive when entering our city, and this project will create a beautiful gateway that reflects the pride we have in our community.”
Grant funding will support the purchase and installation of native Louisiana shrubs, ornamental grasses, perennial flowers, mulch, decorative stone, and landscape edging, as well as supplies for a community volunteer beautification day. The new design also will include irrigation components to support long-term plant health and educational signage promoting native plants and anti-litter awareness.
In addition to the grant funding, the project will leverage volunteer participation from local organizations and residents who will assist with planting and beautification efforts. The City’s Office of Community Development will oversee project implementation and provide long-term maintenance and irrigation to ensure the landscaping remains healthy and attractive.

The City anticipates beginning installation later this year, with opportunities for community members to participate in a volunteer planting day. Additional project details and volunteer information will be announced as the project schedule is finalized.
