NSU Renames Health and Human Performance Department; Ribbon-Cutting Aug. 27

Northwestern State University’s Department of Health and Human Performance has been renamed the School of Kinesiology, and the university will mark the change with a ribbon-cutting at noon Thursday, Aug. 27, at 170 Tarleton Drive.

University officials said the name reflects the school’s growth and aligns its identity with terminology in common use across the profession. Degree requirements, faculty, courses and student pathways remain unchanged; the transition reflects the school’s existing academic focus rather than a curriculum change.

A question-and-answer session with the School of Kinesiology Advisory Panel follows at 1 p.m., covering industry trends, career paths, partnerships and demand for young professionals in physical therapy, sports performance and wellness.

The school has recently added a Bachelor of Science in sport and recreation management, a minor in coaching and a Master of Science in exercise physiology. A doctoral concentration in human performance has been proposed.
