The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announced continued progress on the $3 million project to repair a 3.5-mile segment of LA 1 in Natchitoches Parish.
The project stretches from just north of the Old River Bridge at Montrose to LA 494 near the Cypress community.
Asphalt paving operations are currently underway, with the contractor working on laying the first layer of asphalt. A paving mat is also being used on the project to create a moisture barrier that protects the lower road base and helps prevent future cracking and other damage.
Once this phase of work is complete, the contractor will proceed with laying the final layer of asphalt on the travel lanes and turnouts, followed by the installation of permanent roadway striping and signage and related tasks.
Motorists should expect ongoing intermittent lane closures along this portion of LA 1 and are urged to use extreme caution through the construction zone.
The overall project is anticipated to be complete in late fall 2026, with progress dependent on weather conditions and other factors that can impact construction timelines.
The project was made possible by funding allocated from the Louisiana Transportation Infrastructure Fund (LTIF) during the 2025 Regular Legislative Session.
