The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announced Thursday that the ongoing $9 million project to overlay a section of LA 487 in Natchitoches Parish continues to make progress.
The project is repairing a nearly 10-mile segment of LA 487 from LA 120 at Marthaville to LA 174 at the Ajax community.
The contractor has laid the first layer of asphalt on approximately half the project, with other operations underway to rehabilitate the sub-grade and base of the roadway in preparation for future paving. This is critical to strengthening the infrastructure and extending the service life of the roadway.
Next will be the final layer of asphalt, permanent roadway striping and signage, and other related tasks.
Motorists should expect ongoing intermittent lane closures while construction activities take place and use extreme caution while approaching and driving through the work zone.
The entire project is anticipated to wrap up in late 2026, weather and other factors permitting.
