Symphony Announces 61st Season

The Natchitoches-Northwestern Symphony Orchestra will present six concerts and take part in the annual Christmas Gala during its 61st season under the theme “American Mosaic.” The season opens Tuesday, Sept. 22, with a program marking 250 years of American independence. Concerts are in Magale Recital Hall at 7:30 p.m. Douglas Bakenhus is musical director. Season packages start at $50, available at nnssla.org.

Researchers to Present Louisiana Spanish Traditions Sept. 13

Researchers from the Institute for Public Ethnomusicology will visit Natchitoches Sept. 12-13 to share historical recordings and resources documenting Louisiana’s Spanish-language traditions, including the Adaeseño or Sabine River Spanish dialect spoken in Natchitoches and Sabine parishes since the colonial period. A free public outreach event is set for 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 13, at the Cammie G. Henry Research Center on the third floor of Northwestern State University’s Watson Library.
