Demons Fall 80-6 at Louisiana Tech

Northwestern State lost 80-6 at Louisiana Tech on Saturday night at Joe Aillet Stadium in Ruston before a crowd of 13,108. The Demons took the opening kickoff 11 plays down the field and led on a 33-yard field goal by Payne Williams III, but the Bulldogs scored on their next eight offensive possessions of the half and added a special teams touchdown. Northwestern State fell to 0-2; Louisiana Tech improved to 1-0. Head coach Blaine McCorkle said the game got away quickly and attributed the margin in part to the disparity typical of games against Football Bowl Subdivision opponents. The Demons open Southland Conference play Saturday, Sept. 12, at East Texas A&M in Commerce, Texas, at 6 p.m.

Student Media Open House Draws Interest in Four Campus Outlets

Northwestern State University students learned about NSU Student Media and ways to get involved at an open house Wednesday, Sept. 2, in Kyser Hall. Student Media consists of four student-led organizations: The Current Sauce newspaper, KNWD 91.7 FM, the Potpourri yearbook and the Argus literary magazine. About 70 students work across the four in writing, photography, graphic design, radio and sports broadcasting, podcasting, social media, editing and event planning, with leadership positions, scholarships for certain roles and travel to professional conferences available. No prior media experience or particular major is required; participation is open to all full-time students. Student Media earned eight awards in eight categories at the College Media Association conference last spring and students were recently named finalists in seven Pinnacle Award categories. Library Marks Card Sign-Up Month
Natchitoches Parish Library

September is National Library Card Sign-Up Month, and the Natchitoches Parish Library is offering free cards and free replacements at any branch through the month. Anyone who lives, works or attends school in Natchitoches Parish is eligible. Cardholders get access to digital collections through Hoopla and Libby, homework help through Homework Louisiana, and classes and events for all ages. Among them is the library’s free weekly belly dancing class, which meets at 6:15 p.m. Thursdays through September and October at the Main Branch and is open to teens and adults, with participants working toward an optional group performance at Witch Way to Main Street.

ROAD CLOSURE: U.S. 84 at Bourbeaux Bayou

U.S. 84 over Bourbeaux Bayou, just east of the Village of Clarence, remains closed until further notice. DOTD said the condition and size of the box culvert require the roadway to stay closed for the safety of the traveling public. The department is developing a contract and seeking emergency funding to allow a contractor to replace the existing culvert with a new structure. No-truck signs have been posted on LA 1226. Motorists should prepare for an ongoing closure and detour.
