Responders extinguish hay fire near Vowells Mill

Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s deputies, Provencal Police and multiple units from Natchitoches Parish Fire Protection District #4 responded Sept. 12 around 4:08 pm to reports of several large round bales of hay on fire and a barn in danger in the 600 block of Craig Loop near Vowells Mill, according to the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Firefighters were able to contain the blaze, but multiple large bales of hay were burned. A line was cut around the hay to prevent the fire from potentially spreading. The cause of the fire was unavailable. There were no injuries.

Fire officials advised that the burned hay could smolder for several days and that smoke could be observed in the area.
