City of Natchitoches Water Crew members responded and successfully completed repairs on Sept. 30 to the largest water line in Natchitoches, a 24-inch water main that feeds the entire Highway 1 Bypass industrial area.
Water pressure was unable to be contained, requiring crews to work on the line under water pressure, which hampered efforts. Crews began work at 7 a.m. and completed the repairs by 12:30 p.m.
The break was the result of strain placed on the 24-inch main by a smaller main line attached to it that was being pulled by ground movement caused by the extreme drought Natchitoches experienced this summer.
