Second Street at Touline Street to remain closed through early October

The City of Natchitoches announces the continued closure of the intersection of Second Street at Touline Street to vehicular traffic.

Last week, new concrete pavement was constructed on the east side of this intersection, and new concrete pavement was installed on the west side of this intersection on Sept. 29. However, this intersection will remain closed to traffic until such time as compressive strength testing indicates the new pavement will support vehicular traffic, which is anticipated to be not later than the middle of the week of Oct. 5-9, at which time the entirety of Second Street from Church Street to Touline Street will be re-opened to traffic.

The east side of this intersection will be utilized to stage vehicles for the 20th Annual Classic Car Show on Oct. 2-3, but no other traffic will be allowed on the new pavement.

While this intersection remains closed to traffic, motorists are urged to obey all temporary traffic control devices and to NOT travel around road closed barricades, as doing so is a violation of the law and thus is punishable in accordance with local ordinance.  In addition, travel over the newly-constructed pavement may cause damage that could result in the new pavement having to be repaired or replaced, thus further delaying the re-opening of this street.

On or around Monday, October 5, it is anticipated that the next phase of work on Touline Street will begin, with removal of the existing concrete pavement westward from Second Street to a location just west of the eastern driveway entrance into the Natchitoches Parish Library.  Upon completion of the new pavement in that section and its opening to traffic, the work will continue westward to the intersection of Fourth Street.

The City of Natchitoches appreciates the patience of the public as this construction work proceeds.

As a reminder, this project is being funded by a $2.2 million award from the State Capital Outlay Program.
