Farmers Market Opens Saturday; Riverbank Closed to Traffic

The Natchitoches Farmers Market opens Saturday, Oct. 10, and runs each Saturday through Nov. 14 from 8 a.m. to noon on the riverbank. Vendors sell fresh fruits and vegetables, jams, jellies, salsa, bread and other value-added products, and handcrafted items. The riverbank will be closed to vehicle traffic from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. each market day. More information is on the Natchitoches Farmers Market Facebook page.
Van Cliburn Finalist to Perform at NSU Thursday

Canadian pianist Carter Johnson will perform at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, in Magale Recital Hall as part of the Louisiana Piano Series International. Tickets are $20, and the concert will be livestreamed at nsula.edu/livestream.
Johnson is the guest artist for the Louisiana Music Teachers Association State Conference, which NSU hosts Oct. 8-9. He was a finalist in the 2025 Van Cliburn Competition and won the 2025 Dublin Competition, the first Canadian to do so. His 2026-27 season includes recitals at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall and debuts with the Omaha and Toronto symphony orchestras. He holds degrees from the University of British Columbia, Juilliard and Yale, where he is a doctoral candidate.
On Oct. 9, Johnson will lead a masterclass featuring NSU piano majors Jose Luzuriaga, Erick Cabrera and Steven Mendoza. Chialing Hsieh and Francis Yang will present a conference session including performances by NSU piano majors, and Irene Gomez and Melissa Patino will present their own sessions. John Price, the LMTA state collegiate chair, will host the Collegiate Hour, where students from across Louisiana present research and pedagogical pieces.
MS Support Group Meets This Afternoon
MS Support Group
A multiple sclerosis support group will meet from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. today at the Natchitoches Parish Library. The group is open to people with MS along with their family members and caregivers, and is meant as a space to share experiences, find encouragement and connect with others facing the same diagnosis.
