It’s starting to feel like Fall out there! I know we are all ready for this cooler weather. Football homecoming games, squirrel season, Robeline Heritage Festival, and Natchitoches Car Show have kicked off a busy start to October. Lots of things happening in our community and surrounding communities to keep us busy and involved.
The Village of Robeline will hold their annual Halloween celebration at the Robeline City Park. “Treats on the Track” is designated for Saturday, Oct. 31 from 6 pm until they run out of treats. The Village of Robeline will be giving out free hot dogs, chips and drinks to all. Mayor, Gordon O’Con, encourages everyone to bring your kids out to enjoy the holiday activities and treats. In the past, it has proven to be a safe alternative to going door to door trick or treating.
A benefit coon hunt is slated for Oct. 17 to benefit Andy Ballard and his family. Andy was diagnosed with cancer and is currently undergoing treatments. Chicken plate lunches will be sold for $15 beginning at 1 pm. A raffle and auction will be held as an additional fundraiser. Show $20 at 5:30 pm and hunt $50 begins at 7:30 pm . Belt buckles will be given for overall hunt and show winners. Everyone and all breeds are welcome to join the hunt. The event is sponsored by the Kisatchie Coon hunters Association. This is a non-sanctioned hunt and show. The hunt will last 90 minutes. For more information, please contact Kevin Bynog @ 481-7917 or Josh Caldwell @ 332-0222 or Jessie Erwin @663-6935.
Rain was in the forecast for all of this past weekend but held off on Saturday. Robeline Heritage Society committee members were troubled as to whether to call off the festival, parade and/or music. People who were calling early in the week needed a definite answer if the festival would take place. RHS President, Courtney Stoker, said it was much too early to make the call. Several vendors, music talents decided to stay out of the rain. It’s a tough decision call to make. You can spend all year planning , but in the end outdoor events are dependent upon the weather. I know they are very thankful for their sponsors, technical support, security and officers, emcee, vendors, volunteers, musical talents and all the people who attended the festival. They are actively starting a membership drive. Successful events need lots of volunteers. If you are someone who is interested in helping and volunteering to play a part in the success of the Robeline Heritage Festival and Robeline Heritage Society, contact 318-602-8682. Any help would be much appreciated.
